With Spring Break taking several athletes away from their teams, the Tippecanoe Invitational track meet took place on Saturday. The Troy girls’ team dominated the meet to score 127 points, near 40 points ahead of their closest competitor Vandalia Butler. Greenon placed seventh with 34 points, Tippecanoe ninth (26) and Troy Christian 15th (6.5).

On the boys side, Troy finished a comfortable second, nearly 80 points behind the champions from Dunbar. Tippecanoe placed 15th overall with 8.5 points.

DSC 1682In the girls’ events, the Troy 3200 meter team of Studebaker, Pence, Tyre and Shigley placed third overall with a time of 10:32.16, while Greenon placed seventh overall, and earned two points for their team score.

Tipp (Livesay, Dietz, Rowland and Vissoc) placed fifth in the 1600 relay with a time of 4:39.16. In the 800 relay, the Troy team of Miller, Walters, Courts and Barr placed second overall at 1:51.02, with Tipp coming in sixth (VIssoc, Livesay, Mason, Rowland) with a time of 1:57.21. Greenon was also seventh overall at 1:57.62.

Waters, Barr, Hemm and Courts came back for Troy and took second in the 400 relay with a time of 53:01. The second team from Troy ran to a third-place finish also in that race.

In the long distance races, Kate Pence was second in the 3200 run (12:21.93) with teammate Olivia Tyre finishing third (12:29.24).

As expected, Troy sophomore Morgan Gigandet cruised to the easy win in the 1600, finishing in 5:17.37, 20 seconds ahead of her closest competitor. Teammate Emma Shigley was fourth (5:42.79), with Tipp’s Caley Dehass finishing seventh and Rhiannon Morlock from Greenon finishing 14th overall.

Gigandet came back and had a tough race in the 800, but won with a time of 2:29.06. Makenzie Dietz from Tippecanoe was fourth (2:39.18) and Megan Studebaker from Troy placed 11th. Lianna Gabriel was 14th for Greenon, and her teammate Olivia Blevins was 15th.

DSC 1806Greenon’s Rachel Stute won the 400 dash with a time of 1:00.94. Troy freshman Ciena Miller was seventh and Tipp’s Sammie Rowland finished tenth.

The 200 dash was also won by Stute of Greenon, with a time of 28.27. Ashley Barr from Troy was fifth, Kayla Hemm (Troy) finished eighth and Delani Ortiz (Greenon) placed ninth.

Stute nearly made it a hat-trick as she nearly won the 100 dash as well. She placed second with a 13.49, just .05 seconds behind the winner. Celina Courts from Troy was fourth, teammate Kelsey Waters fifth.

Caitlyn Cusick from Troy placed sixth in the 100 hurdles with Tipp’s Lydia Stueve placing tenth. Cusick came back in the 300 hurdles and placed second overall, less than one second off the winning time. Tori Livesay placed seventh.

In the field events, Dasia Cole from Troy won the high jump, Rowland from Tipp took second overall in the long jump, while several girls placed in the top eight for the discus. Kylee Brooks from Troy was fourth, Amanda Setser from Troy seventh, and Emily Sloan of Troy Christian was eighth.

Waters won the shot put with a toss of 38’3.5”, while second overall was her Troy teammate Alaura Holycross. Kari Norton of Greenon was seventh. Finally in the pole vault, Lora Current from Troy Christian was fourth and Jaclyn Bashore of Tipp seventh.

*BOYS- In the 3200 meter relay, the Tipp team of Durcan, Stearns, Spencer and Dix placed seventh overall with a time of 9:22.05 and was the only local team to earn team points by placing in the top eight. Tipp also finished eighth in the 1600 relay and Greenon finished ninth.

In the 400 relay, Troy captured fourth overall with Browder, Culp-Bishiop, Moody and Robinson running a 46.97.

Stephen Jones has an easy win in the 1600 run, completing the event in 4:29.87. Jones came back in the 800 run and finished second overall with a 2:06.31.

In the 400 run, Hayata Nagata finished fifth overall, as the Troy junior ran 56.06, and his Trojan teammate Timmy Farrier was sixth at 56.07. Tipp’s Adam Grieshop finished 13th.

Running in the 200 dash was Troy’s Josh Browder who placed third overall with a 24.76, then came back in the 100 dash and placed third with an 11.87.

The field events saw some local athletes also place in the top eight. In the high jump, both Tippecanoe’s Ben Jans and Troy’s Luke Robinson tied for seventh with 5’6”.

In the long jump, Troy junior Hayden Jackson finished eighth with a distance of 17’11.25”, and Nagata was 11th. Travis Hall of Troy also finished fifth in the discus (119’7”), while Tippecanoe’s Isaac Haas was sixth (115’9”).

In the shot put, Troy’s Travis Hall won the event with a throw of 46’9.75”, with Tipp’s Haas finishing eighth at 38’5”. Greenon’s Ty Rickmon finished tenth.
