With the coming of the holiday season, comes the opportunity to reflect on those aspects of our communities which make them fantastic places to live, work, and raise a family.  The Miami County Foundation was founded on the premise of People Helping People. For over three decades with the support and generosity of the residents of Miami County, the Foundation has established a tradition of providing for the health, education, and welfare of the citizens of Miami County.

The tradition continued this past week as the Miami County Foundation held its Fall Grant Distribution Celebration at the Bravo Room in Hobart Arena in Troy; where the Foundation awarded over $216,000 to support more than 90 programs offered by not-for-profit organizations throughout the area. Each award was accepted on behalf of the organizations that are as varied and unique as the people they serve.

Supporting education has always been one of the focuses of the Foundation.  Covington High School was awarded $267 for the purchase of board games which will aid both World and American History students in the understanding of the differences between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

Likewise, Cookson Elementary School in Troy, received $400 to support a unique history project which includes a bus tour of important sites throughout Troy so that students can gain an appreciation for the local history found in their own backyard.

The Miami County Foundation takes great pride in promoting organizations that promote good health for the people in this area.  At the recent event, Troy Lions Club was presented with $1,250 to be used to assist their Sight Conservation Project which is the Lions’ Club largest outreach program.  It seeks to provide eye exams and eye glasses to those in the community without the appropriate resources.
