The township wants to cap the mowing cost in October and November. Derrick Sttafford has provided mowing services for the township for the last three years. However, they have been charged for 3 to 4 mowings in October and November, which the township trustees think is excessive. The Trustees discussed a couple of options to limit the expense. The first is to cap the mowing expenditure with the contractor at a certain dollar amount for cemetery mowing or to limit the number of mowings in the early and late months of the mowing season. The trustees also recognize that additional mowing may be needed because of noxious weeds but would like to keep the total expenditure for the township between $8,000 and $10,000 per year.

The Miami County Park District has requested that tiling be rerouted or relocated within the Park Districts Knoop Location on SR 41 to accommodate a proposed facility that the park district would like to build that would allow the park district to host larger conferences. However, based on the ground maps and the current drainage of the area, major revisions would need to be made to the present tiling which currently drains the property in order to accommodate the proposed facility. Additional studies need to be made to determine if the accommodations are appropriate.

Miami County Prosecutor Tony Kendell and Assistant Prosecutor Chris Englert attended the meeting to present several indemnity forms to the trustees for use for their business dealings. The forms would release Staunton Township from liability with contractors, use of the township facility, and use of township equipment.

In addition, the prosecutor delivered a statement to the trustees on the procedures to follow to fill the vacated position on the board resulting from no qualified candidates for the trustee position. The township can appoint an interim trustee for a two year period within 30 days of the expired term. At the end of two years, an election is held for someone to complete the term.

The trustees also questioned the prosecutor and assistant prosecutor concerning hiring trustees who owned business that provide services which the township needs. Both Englert and Kendell were cautious about trustees providing services for the township for money. They said, "It could easily be misconstrued as a conflict of interest. We are very close to a line here and we don't want to cross that line."

The next meeting of the Staunton Township Trustees is schedule for November 16, 2015 at &:00 p.m. at the Staunton Township Building
