Jennifer DeMaro’s years of planning to share her knowledge of horses is paying off.

Her Bellwether Farm located off Peebles Road in Concord Township is readying for its second year of summer horse camps.

The first year was one of learning for everyone, including DeMaro.

She’s made only a few changes to this year’s offerings, adding a Fun With Horses mini camp program for those ages five through seven. The Horsemanship Camps are for those 8 and older.

Although her plans include adult programs, they are still in the works, DeMaro said.

“I hope to continue to add on, based on the wants, demands,” she said.

She moved to Miami County two years ago from the Bellbrook area.

“I am glad I did it,” she said of having her own property and developing the programs. “I hope to continue and grow with the programs.”

The move was part of a long-time dream of having a small farm with horses and a business helping others enjoy horses.

The camp program also includes arts and crafts, games and speakers.

DeMaro described the camp as is an all-encompassing educational environment with the core of it being the horsemanship. The overall theme is building confidence, knowledge and relationships.

A native of Virginia, DeMaro rode horses as a child, a love she credited to her mother. Demaro has a background in horse ownership, riding, showing and coordinating a college for kids horse program in Wisconsin with her sister.

She served in the Air Force, holds a master’s degree in library science, has taught school and worked a number of years for the government.

She  now works from her home as a communications manager for a Chicago-based company. Her husband is retired from the Air Force and a civilian employee at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

Last summer’s camp participants came from areas of Miami County as well as Sidney and Beavercreek. DeMaro said she has several repeat campers signed up for this summer and has heard from others who received referrals from first-year participants.
