During the April 7, 2014 meeting of the Staunton Township Trustees Meeting, the trustees looked at several areas that need attention for the township roads.  First, the Miami County Engineering Office (MCEO) sent the township the results of their bridge inspection for the township bridges.  The MCEO reported that on the Statler Creek Bridge is partially blocked by a tree.  The trustees were not clear on where this bridge is located.  Jeff Cron, Trustee, volunteered to verify the location with the Engineering Office.  Once the location is confirmed, Mr Cron said, "I'll drive my backhoe down there and take care of the tree."  According to the county report, the bridges on Sayers Road and Rusk Road have debris partially blocking them.  Bill Gearheart noted, "These are all small ditches and it shouldn't take much to clean them out."

Additional road issues occurred as a result of the recent heavy rains.  Resident Fred Minnick notified the township trustees that a drain near his property on Polecat Road was plugged and water was running across the road.  Trustee Levi Long reported that "he cleaned out the drain and sandbagged the bank to divert the water from the roadway."

The trustees also began to plan for summer road repairs.  The roads that need the most work are Stringtown Road, Polecat Road, and Loy Road.  The trustees plan to request to rent Concord Township's Durapatcher in July to address some of these issues.  Mr. Gearheart believes the rental rate is $80 per day.  Mr. Gearheart also suggested that they request a grant from Troy Foundation for crack sealant to correct some of the pavement problems.  The deadline to apply for the grant is May 15, 2014 and the grants are awarded in June.  Michael DeWeese's is concerned that the "foundation evaluates the number of people effected by the change and Staunton Township doesn't have that many people."  Mr. Gearheart agreed to investigate the request.

In other actions, the township received a notice from the Miami County Zoning Board that Zoning Resolution 1676-3-14 has been submitted.  The resolution governs the zoning regulations for building a pond.

Mr. Cron also talked to a representative from Asphalt Systems Inc.  The company offered Mr. Cron a 5 cent/square yard for any work Staunton Township contracted with them to perform.

Lastly, to satisfy the State Auditor, U.S. Bank provided the township with a form that lists all of the trustees as signers on the checks.  Mr. DeWeese is the only person who can write checks.  Mr. DeWeese will deliver a copy of the form to the state auditor April 8, 2014.
