The Miami County commissioners Thursday, April 17, approved a rezoning of 50 acres off Monroe-Concord Road near Interstate 75 in Concord Twp.

Trafalgar Inc. again proposed the rezoning from agricultural to single-family residential for a housing project. The commission has approved the rezoning since 1995 with each approval overturned successfully in referendum votes.

The commission voted 3-0 to approve the rezoning following a public hearing.

During the hearing, Mark Geisinger, Trafalgar Corp. president, spoke in favor of the rezoning. He said the proposal is in keeping with the county comprehensive plan and that the land is located along the Interstate 75 corridor making it developable.

Concord Twp. resident Sue Campbell spoke against the rezoning, asking the commissioners to look at flood zone designations associated with the property. Dan Suerdieck, county planning and zoning manager, said the flood-related issues would be looked at when subdivision regulations and zoning permit application is made prior to development.

Opponents have 30 days to file for a referendum.
