Troy Hockey

Troy traveled to the Cincinnati Gardens to battle league for Elder High School last weekend, and both teams finished with a 3-3 tie.

The first period was back and forth with Troy keeping the puck in their offensive zone most of the time, but the Elder goalie was doing a good job of keeping the puck out of the goal. The Panther goalie saw 12 shots and stopped them all, while Cory Neff only saw 4 shots. Troy picked a five minute penalty but still appeared to be in control, but neither team found the back of the goal.

The second period found Troy again picking up penalties, first with a two minute and then another 5 minute penalty. Prestyn Hoefler and AJ Noll were reading each other very well and Noll hit Hoefler twice on the same shift with great passes and Hoefler drilled them both home giving Troy the 2-0 lead while short-handed on the kill.

Elder later scored late in the 5 minute power play to make it 2-1 with Troy still on top. The Trojans just could not stay out sin-bin and caused another penalty kill. Elder scored to tie it up at 2-2 late in the second while on the power play. The second ended in a deadlock at 2-2.

The third started with Elder shooting a long range slapper that eluded the Troy goalie to take a 3-2 lead. The game went back and forth with no goals until with less than a minute remaining in regulation time the Trojans pulled the goalie to give Troy an additional attacker and with just 34 second to go, Troy Moore found Hoefler for the game tying goal.

The game came to an end with the score all tied up at 3-3. A shoot out was called for and Elder picked up the win after they went up 3-1 in the shootout.

Cory Neff was between the pipes and saved 14 of the 18 shots he saw. Troy outshot the Panthers 34 to 18. Hoefler had his second hat trick in two days with 3 goals. Noll had 2 assists and Troy Moore had 1 assist. The Trojans sat in the penalty box for 18 minutes compared to the 8 minutes the Panthers sat.

Troy drops to 1-1 in the league and 2-5 overall.
