The second season is upon us.
Tomorrow night, the area boys’ basketball teams top off the sectional tournament at various locations, as the dreams of heading to the state tournament are going through the minds of a lot of teams.
While three of the teams in the area took byes in the opening round, the other four teams all tip-off either Friday or Saturday.
Tecumseh starts their post-season on Friday as they head to Vandalia-Butler for a 7:00 p.m. game against #6 Sidney, a team the Arrows knocked out last season in tournament play. The Arrows look to advance and if they win, they come back next Tuesday night also at Butler against the winner of Troy and Xenia.
The Trojans open with Xenia also on Friday at Butler High School, immediately following the Tecumseh game at 8:30 p.m. Coach Paul Bremigan’s team needs to upset the seeded Buccs to advance into round two against either Tecumseh or Sidney next Tuesday at 7:00.
Also on Saturday, Tippecanoe opens their Division Two sectional play at Springfield High School against Shawnee at 5:30. Tipp was voted as the #1 seed in that sectional and Shawnee was number three, and went after the Red Devils. If Tipp is victorious, they would advance into round two on Tuesday against Ben Logan at 6:00.
In Division Three, all three of the area teams are in action at Northmont High School, the home of the brand new Thunder Dome. Northwestern is up first, as the Warriors play Anna on Saturday at 7:30, with the winner coming back to battle either Franklin Monroe or Dixie next Wednesday at 7:30 back at Northmont.
Greenon, like Northwestern, drops to Division Three this year after spending years in Division Two. The Knights open tournament play with a bye in the opening round, then likely come back with #1 seed Northridge next Wednesday at 6:00 at Northmont.
Bethel and Troy Christian also know their fates for the tournament, as the Bees also chose a bye in the opening round, and they come back against Carlisle or Stivers in round two on Tuesday at 7:30 at Northmont
Finally for the Troy Christian Eagles, they will open play in the second round of the Division Four sectionals, as they also took a bye in the opening round. The Eagles will play either #2 Southeastern or Miami Valley School next Wednesday at 6:00 at Troy High School.
