The Trojan Gymnastics team continued to dominate the district with an impressive win Friday at a quad meet hosted by Northmont. The Trojans earned a season high team score of 139.75 which was more than enough to beat a strong Centerville team who came in second with a 136.3. It was a great Senior Night for Troy’s four seniors with all four placing in at least one event.
Troy started on beam and had a strong showing with Claire Buerger coming in second with an 8.85, Lizzy Deal 4th (8.5) and Minori Nakada and Kayla Coate placing fifth and sixth respectively with a tied score of 8.4.
The second rotation had Troy on floor with many Trojan friends and family cheering them on. Troy reveled in the support and came away with four girls in the top five. Claire won the event with a season high 9.2, Minori placed third (9.1), Grace fourth (9.05) and freshman Abby Baker snagged the fifth place spot with a 9.0.
For vault, it was a 1-2-3 Trojan finish with three seniors competing a Tsukahara vault and receiving season high scores. Grace won with a 9.4, Minori second with a 9.35 and Claire third (9.3). Lizzie Deal also had a strong vault finishing 6th with an 8.7.
For the final rotation on bars, Minori took the top spot with an 8.7, Claire took fifth (8.1) and Grace was sixth (8.0).
Strong showings on each event enabled four Trojans to place in the top eight. Minori was the overall winner with a 35.55 and Claire was a close second with a 35.45. Grace took fourth (34.55) and Lizzie finished sixth (33.6).
This was a big win for the Trojans as they head to the Dayton Championship meet at Miamisburg High School Saturday. The following Saturday they will head to districts at Lakota High School. A first or second place finish will earn the Trojans a long coveted spot to the state meet in Hilliard.
