Tippecanoe, Troy Christian and Bethel all have swimmers who have qualified for the OHSAA State Swimming Championships this weekend in Canton, as they qualified in the district meet last weekend at Miami University.
Troy also had swimmers at the district meet, and many had solid finishes but fell short of qualifying.
Division 2:In the 50 Free, Jay Bell swam a time of 20.95, which broke the district meet record in that event. The senior defeated league for Skyler Tavenner of Indian Lake for the title, as Tavenner swam 21.37.
Troy Christian’s Matthew Moebius finished tenth in that event with a time of 22.40, and his teammate Samuel Lavielle was 18th overall.
In the 100 Free, Tipp’s Evan Stapp placed fifth with a time of 47.10 with Bell right behind at 47.12 and both qualified for the state meet. Moebius also swam in that event and placed 15th overall with a 49.92. Tipp’s Ben Jans placed 32nd overall.
In the 200 Free, Bethel’s Ben Wright placed 13th overall with a 1:48.39 and qualified for Canton. Troy Christian freshman Alexander Klint placed 24th overall with a 1:55.83, Jans was 27th (1:59.01) and his Tipp teammate Adam Buynak was 28th (2:01.41).
Grant Doucette, another freshman from Troy Christian, placed 11th in the 500 Free, with Tipp’s Matthew Poynter 12th. Wright finished sixth in the 500 Free, swimming a 5:01.38 and qualified for state for the Bees.
The 100 Back saw Tipp’s Ryan Wall finish 12th at 56:09, and Klint was 19th (58:96). Eagles teammate Matthew Newcomer was one spot behind at 20th.
In the 100 Breast, Ezekiel Fulton from Troy Christian placed 11th (1:02.16), qualifying for the state meet, and his teammate Jacob Voisinet was 21st (1:06.72).
Newcomer also came back with an 18th place finish in the 100 Fly, with Buynak 26th and Josiah Biller of Troy Christian finishing 29th.
Stapp qualified for state in the 200 IM, as he finished third overall with a 1:53.92. Also in that event, Doucette was 22nd (2:11.62) and Tipp’s Evan Hill was 31st.
The 200 Free Relay team from Tipp (Stapp, Wall, Buynak and Bell) finished sixth overall with a time of 1:29.82, and is headed to state, while Troy Christian (Newcomer, Klint, Voisinet and Moebius) placed 12th.
A 12th place finish is where Tipp landed in the 400 Free, with Troy Christian two spots behind the Red Devils.
Also advancing to state was the Tipp 200 Medley team as they finished fourth. Troy Christian also placed sixth and will join Tipp at state. Bethel’s 200 Medley team of Moore, Wright, Moore and Whelan placed 21st.
For the girls, Arielle Arnett placed second in the 500 Free qualifying for state, swimming a time of 5:00.53. She also placed eighth in the 200 Free and will compete in Canton.
Also for Tipp, freshman Alexis Cook was 14th in the 50 Free and 27th overall in the 200 Free.
Samantha Williams finished 21st in the 100 Back and tenth in the 200 IM, while Cami Cahill was 15th overall in the 100 Breast, and 16th in the 100 Fly. Anna Klepinger also placed 27th in the 200 IM.
In the relays, Tipp was sixth in the 400 Free, as Arnett, Cook, Cahill and Williams swam a 3:44.01 and will be at the state meet. That same group finished tenth in the 200 Medley Relay.
Bethel’s Eiliana Wright finished 18th overall in the 500 Free with a time of 5:36.50. Wright also placed 17th in the 100 Fly with a 1:02.00.
Division 1: In the 50 Free, Troy senior Tristan West placed 20th overall with a 22.60, then came back with another 20th place finish in the 100 Free (49.72).
Joe Dutton competed in the 500 Free, and the Trojan sophomore finished 21st with a time of 4:57.90.
The 200 Free Relay saw the Trojans team of Orozco, Liew, Armstrong and West place 17th overall in the event with a time of 1:35.63. Their 200 Medley Relay team finished 21st overall.
For the Troy girls, Katie Castaneda finished 33rd in the 500 Free.
The state meet is held this week in Canton.
