The Troy City Schools are looking for a new high school principal with the June 15 resignation of William “Bill” Overla, who is taking a job with the Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC).
Overla has been principal since fall 2011. His resignation is effective June 30. He will be taking a job as a supervisor on the MVCTC administrative team.
In his resignation letter, Overla wrote, “I appreciate the opportunity to have served our staff, community, parents and, most importantly, our students. Thank you.”
Superintendent Eric Herman said he was “happy for Bill and wish him the best.”
“He will be missed by staff, students and administration. He has been a real pleasure to work with,” Herman said.
The principal position has been posted on the district web site. Interviews of candidates will follow, Herman said.
At least three years of administrative experience and a current high school principal’s license are among qualifications listed. The application deadline is June 22.
Overla is the second area high school principal to leave in the past couple of months. Belinda Banks resigned in May, effective the end of July, as Tippecanoe High School principal. She did not provide a reason for her departure.
The Troy school district also is in the process of filling the position of assistant superintendent, which has been vacant the past few years.
The district job posting states the application deadline is extended until the position is filled.
Herman told the board of education at its June 13 meeting that six candidates were being interviewed. Three candidates are internal and three external, he said.
